Mrs. Younger was born Sept. 12, 1924, in East Prairie, to John O'Flynn and Ollie Jackson. Her Irish ancestry, tenacity, work ethic and devout Christian faith were great assets as she grew up during the Depression and throughout her life. She was also affectionately known as A.J., Jackie or Granny. Her interest in nursing began with her service as a cadet nurse, stationed in Oakridge, Tenn. during World War II. In addition to becoming a registered nurse and working as a private duty RN, she earned a BS in Nutrition from Andrews University in Michigan. She completed her career as a food service administrator for many hospitals, retiring from Central Texas Medical Center in 1986. She was a Texas Chili Cook-Off champion and excellent cook, who took great pleasure in mentoring others through her culinary skills.

She married Lynton Younger in 1973 and they shared 23 years before his death in 1996.
