NEVADA, Mo.- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada for Carol Sue Smith, 72, Nevada, who died Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at the Butler Center in Butler. Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht will officiate. Interment will follow in First Christian Church IOOF Cemetery in Golden City.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald Vinson and James Vinson, both of Lamar; one sister, Wanda Hunt, Nevada, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Schmoranz and Marsha Burris.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 6, 1951, in Lamar, to James F. and Delera I. (Howard) Vinson. She was raised in Golden City and graduated from high school there in 1970. She worked at Job Corps in Excelsior Springs until their closing and then she came back to Lamar and worked as a cafe waitress for a time. In 1972 she moved to Nevada, Mo. and began working at the Nevada State Hospital, retiring after 30 years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Nevada.
