The Lamar Tigers held their homecoming parade and pep rally on Friday afternoon, Sept. 29. The parade, complete with band, cheerleaders, class floats, homecoming candidates and football players, traveled around the square before coming to a stop at the bandstand. The football players gathered underneath the bandstand, with cheerleaders out front leading student members, along with members of the community, in cheers. Tiger head coach Jared Beshore spoke of the support shown by the community and encouraged everyone to attend the game that evening, where they could be “loud and proud”. As part of earning the school’s Spirit Stick, the cheerleaders led the four classes in “the parties over here” cheer, with the junior class winning. The senior class won with their float. Homecoming candidates included Emma Forst, Ella Harris, Chelsey O’Sullivan, Jr Romero, Rourke Dillon and Khiler Nance. Candidate games were played, including one where the king candidates had to wear oven mitts while unwrapping candy and passing it on to the queen candidate they were paired with. O’Sullivan and Nance won this game that was followed with a game where gasoline was put on the queen candidate’s nose and then using their nose, they had to peck marshmallows from a plate held by the king candidates and then carry the marshmallow over to drop in a cup. The winner of this contest was Harris and Romero. The last game was where the king candidates attempted to get a gummy with a hole in it off a plate with a straw, then to transfer it to a straw held in the mouth by the queen candidates. The winner of this was Forst and Dillon. Everyone was in high spirits and ready for a show that evening as the Tigers were set to take on the McDonald County Mustangs.
