Barton County Community Foundation celebrates with a fiesta

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation held a Fiesta for their annual gala and auction that was held Saturday, Sept. 30, at Memorial Hall in Lamar. Grants totaling roughly one-fourth of a million dollars were awarded to some extremely deserving recipients throughout the festive evening. One of the many projects that received monies included the Wyatt Earp Park. Betty Kuhn (second from left) represented the Kuhn family as it was announced that the pavilion at the park has been named in the family’s honor. Also pictured, and being recognized by Tonya Suschnick, left, are Katherine Howard, Cindy McFadden, Kim O’Sullivan and Eva Buchanan. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Ground was broken on Friday, May 2, for the Golden City School Farm. Prior to the groundbreaking, those speaking were, left to right, Caleb Hughes, Robby Stafford, Ag teacher Michael Lee and Golden City School Superintendent Dennis Kimzey. Following the presentation of a grant by Arvest Bank and recognition given by Kimzey, Lee and Stafford, members of the school board and FFA members joined in to celebrate the new school farm. Stafford was this year’s FFA president, with Hughes being inducted as the next president during their banquet held later that evening.

Lucas Garfield, son of Ben and Da'Lacey Garfield, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. His favorite sport is golf. His favorite subject is Social Studies, because of Mr. Castle. Lucas likes playing Fortnite, playing with friends and going to Florida.
