Liberal sixth graders visit state capitol

Liberal sixth grade students visited the Missouri State Capitol on October 3. While there, they toured the capitol and the Missouri State Penitentiary. During the capitol tour, Secretary of State Archives came over and did a great job explaining what they do and gave some history that is important to the state. The students also visited the dome, the whispering gallery, House chambers, Senator chambers and the House lounge. Representative Ann Kelley sponsored the pizza that fed the group.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Ground was broken on Friday, May 2, for the Golden City School Farm. Prior to the groundbreaking, those speaking were, left to right, Caleb Hughes, Robby Stafford, Ag teacher Michael Lee and Golden City School Superintendent Dennis Kimzey. Following the presentation of a grant by Arvest Bank and recognition given by Kimzey, Lee and Stafford, members of the school board and FFA members joined in to celebrate the new school farm. Stafford was this year’s FFA president, with Hughes being inducted as the next president during their banquet held later that evening.

Lucas Garfield, son of Ben and Da'Lacey Garfield, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. His favorite sport is golf. His favorite subject is Social Studies, because of Mr. Castle. Lucas likes playing Fortnite, playing with friends and going to Florida.
