Area veterans honored during assembly

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger An extremely moving tribute was paid the area veterans as Lamar High School held its annual Veterans Day Assembly at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, in the high school gym. A large group of veterans, as well as students and spectators, were on hand to honor all veterans that served in the United States Armed Forces.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Lisa Alexander, president of CoxHealth Foundation, spoke to a group of medical and community members that were at Cox Barton County Hospital on Thursday morning, May 8. She was followed with CoxHealth System Senior Vice President William Mahoney and Dr. Charles Fielding. The Barton County Chamber of Commerce members then gathered with hospital representatives, to perform a ribbon cutting.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Ground was broken on Friday, May 2, for the Golden City School Farm. Prior to the groundbreaking, those speaking were, left to right, Caleb Hughes, Robby Stafford, Ag teacher Michael Lee and Golden City School Superintendent Dennis Kimzey. Following the presentation of a grant by Arvest Bank and recognition given by Kimzey, Lee and Stafford, members of the school board and FFA members joined in to celebrate the new school farm. Stafford was this year’s FFA president, with Hughes being inducted as the next president during their banquet held later that evening.

Lucas Garfield, son of Ben and Da'Lacey Garfield, is the sixth grade Lamar Middle School Student of the Week. His favorite sport is golf. His favorite subject is Social Studies, because of Mr. Castle. Lucas likes playing Fortnite, playing with friends and going to Florida.
