He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Troy Hudspeth and his brother-in-law, Richard Arnold.

Mr. Schilling was born Sept. 9, 1934, to Alice (Boehne) and August Schilling. He grew up outside of Meinert with his parents and sister. The family attended Zion Lutheran Church in Meinert and he attended a one-room school there through eighth grade. He was a 1952 graduate of Lockwood High School. From a very early age he helped his dad on the farm.

Due to a major drought in the early 1950s, he moved to Kansas City to make a living. Before long he was back on the farm and bought his first tractor, a ‘33 Massey Harris. He married Linda Lee Wilson at Zion in December of 1956 and in 1957 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served at Fort Sam Walton, San Antonio, Texas.

They returned to Missouri in 1959 and raised their children in the Lutheran faith, attending Zion and in 1969 joining Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood.

Mr. Schilling farmed for over 75 years, growing his operation of row crops, hay and beef cattle, with the help of his family and one of his proudest moments came in 1976 when his family received the Dade County Farm Family Award at the Missouri State Fair.
