Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar City Lake featured a beautiful sight following the deep freeze that was experienced this past weekend and first part of the week. At one time the entire lake was full of nothing but geese, with maybe a few ducks thrown in for good measure. When this picture was taken there were several out in the middle of the lake, while many ventured across the ice and even more flew in to join the others.

Meet BCCF Board member Lacey Peterson
The comencement ceremony for the 2025 class of Jasper High School was held at Tabler Gymnasium on Sunday, May 18, 3 p.m. The class entered the gym to the processional, followed with the National Anthem being led and performed by the Japser High School Ensemble. Alyssa Osborne was named valedictorian and gave her address, followed with Ellie Cawyer, salutatorian. Other class members included Bailey Adams, Clayton Anderson, Addison Atnip, Emersyn Bass, Luke Beard, Katherin Molina, Olivia Brashear, Abigail Caldwell, Robert Chase, Logan Cornell, Emily Crane, Michael Czarnecki, Hunter Earl, Adeline Gasche, Lacey Gordon, Ryder Grisham, Tyler Gunn, Leland Harris, James Hoyt, Jaydenn Hudson, Remington Joyce, Reece King, Matthew Lawless, Trace Lehman, Nadia Morga, Lincoln Moss, Austin Pope, Olivia Pritchard, Rolland Richardson, Triston Richardson, Paige Sentliner, Brady Sisseck, Crytal Smith, Deirae Smith, Diamond Sprouls, Shiloh Storm, William Thompson, Jaycob Titius and Chris Xiong.

Metzger’s Mutterings
Preston Heins, a junior at Lamar High School, has remained undefeated all season in the long jump, with the exception of one athlete from Rich Hill. Heins was earned the Big 8 Conference Companship and was named District Champ. He then placed first as Class 3 Sectional Champ with a 6.61m jump (21’8.236”). Next stop was the State Championship. Be sure to watch for results. Preston is pictured with two of his jumps, as well as his jump coach, Hallee Gammon. Preston is the son of Andy and Christy Heins.
