LAMAR- A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the First Baptist Church of Lamar for James Elwood Fisher, 91, who died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his sons, James Fisher and wife Jocelyn and Daniel Fisher and wife Susan; two daughters, Cherie Rondinelli and husband Paul and Yvette Webb and husband Dave; a brother, William Fisher and wife Merle; a sister, Virginia Schouten and husband Eddie; nine grandchildren, Forest Fisher and wife Jessie, Richard Fisher, Christin Webb, Brian Webb, Jeremy Webb and wife Angie, Timothy Fisher, Naomi Stray and husband James, Benjamin Fisher and wife Caroline and Lydia Hubbard and husband Robert and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; a sister, Lunetta Newel and a brother, Anthony Fisher.

Mr. Fisher was born March 3, 1932, to Martha (Nolte) Fisher and Forest Fisher. He was a 1950 graduate of Hughesville (Mo.) High School. He met the love of his life, Doris Eichholz and they were married on May 1, 1951.

Mr. Fisher was an accomplished, well respected businessman who held various positions in the grain elevator and real estate industries and was well known as an all around handyman. His first and foremost job was as a husband and father. He was a great husband and caregiver to his wife Doris. The two enjoyed a truly extraordinary marriage of over 68 years. He taught his children faith, grace, hope, strength, perseverance and dignity. He was universally known as a pleasure to be with, smart and outgoing. He was treasured by his family and will be missed by his family and friends for his kindness and generosity and for his love and devotion to God.

Mr. Fisher became a Christian and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lamar, where he served as a deacon and volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and several other charitable organizations. He had a deep and abiding faith in God, which he shared and passed down to his children. He was a devoted husband to his adoring wife and dedicated loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a fine example of what a father should be to his children.
