JASPER- Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the First Baptist Church of Lamar for Leonard Earl Metcalf, 82, Jasper, who died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to Mitchell Cemetery, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Danny Metcalf and wife Kyley, Jasper; one daughter, Della Hill and Virginia Chadbourne, of Albert Lea, Minn.; five grandchildren, Braden, Logan, Haley, Kierstin and Xander; five great-grandchildren, Rynlee, Blair, Lakyn, Myles and Marlie and one sister, Marlene Cox, Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leila; one daughter, Debbie Metcalf and one brother-in-law, Larry Cox.

Mr. Metcalf was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Barton County, to Earl George Metcalf and Ethel Alice (Corben) Metcalf. He married Leila Ann Greenlee on Oct. 16, 1970, in Jasper.

He worked as a machinist first for Steadley Company, who was later bought out by Leggett & Platt. He worked for them for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. He lived in Barton and Jasper counties most of his life.

Mr. Metcalf enjoyed catfishing, gardening and yard work. He loved watching his grandkids play sports and spending time with his family and he loved his Kansas City Chiefs.
