LAMAR-Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home for Johnie Homer Kerney, 79, formerly of Lamar and Pekin, Ill., who died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, with his family by his side. A family gathering will be held at 818 W. Central, Carthage, following burial in Greenfield Cemetery, Jerico Springs.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include one sister, Barbara (Kerney) Lofton, Oronogo; six daughters, Debra (Kerney) Hosp and husband Tommy, Purcell; Robin (Kerney) Frink and husband Richard, Carthage; Mary Ann (Kerney) Smith and husband John, Carthage, Melissa (Kerney) Irlandi, Port Charlotte, Fla., Kimberly (Kerney) Howard and husband Tom, Miller and Kristine Kerney, Pekin, Ill.; one son, John Howard Kerney, Milford; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four nieces, Marsha, Patty, Tammy and Becky; one nephew, Alvin; an aunt, Nellie Higgins; an uncle, Lee Cones and many cousins, including his cousin and best friend, Larry Gale Higgins and wife Mary, Jerico Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Iola Kerney; one sister, Marilyn Sanders and two grandchildren.
Mr. Kerney was born July 25, 1936, near Jasper, to Willis and Iola G. (Cones) Kerney. He attended Webb City schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1955. He married Doris Swanger and they had three daughters, Debra, Robin and Mary. He married Opal Dockery and had one son, John and one daughter, Melissa. He married Patricia Shumney and had one daughter, Kimberly. He then had one daughter, Kristina B. Kerney, whose mother is Janice Seeley.
He loved hunting, guns, fishing, dogs, motorcycles, fast cars and square dancing, belonging to many square dance clubs in Missouri and Illinois. He was a laborer most of his life, retiring from Garnac Grain Co. in Pekin, Ill., due to ill health.
