It took 17 years but the Danforth Anchor, located at the Barton County Memorial Park, is now complete. Redneck welders Rile Friend, Casey McGuire and Chris McCarthy installed the 350 pound chain to the anchor at the Memorial Park on the chilly morning of Wednesday, Feb. 28. The anchor was displayed in the Barton County courtyard from 2017-2023. The Historical Society then transferred conservatorship of the anchor to the Memorial Park. A dedication was held last October, without the chain. A search for a chain took the park to the salvage yards of Virginia, all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Finally, International Shipbreaking in Brownsville, Texas contacted the park about donating some chain. They cut off a 15' length and shipped it in early February. Redneck Welding fashioned the chain links so it looks like it is kind of "swooping".
