RURAL LAMAR-Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home for Ora Katherine Eccher, 90, rural Lamar, who died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at Truman Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years. Mike Gage will officiate. Burial will be in Barton City Cemetery, northeast of Liberal.

Survivors include a daughter, M. Johanna Powell, Houston, Texas; a son, Carl Eccher and wife Jeannie, rural Lamar; a son-in-law, VerDale Weeden, Miami, Okla.; two brothers, Willie Spurling and wife Carol and Floyd Leroy Spurling; two sisters, Edna Haile and Georgie Ann Spurling; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Kenneth, two sisters, Shirley and Alice and a daughter, Donna Weeden.

Mrs. Eccher was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Neosho County, Kan., one of nine children of Karl and Verfie (Reeve) Spurling. In addition to being a homemaker, she had worked at Big Smith and O'Sullivan Industries for many years. She was a talented seamstress, making dresses and coats for her children. Many benefited from the produce of her large gardens and enjoyed the fried chicken and homemade pies served with love at her table. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially time spent hunting duck and quail and fishing with her husband or foster children, Jamy and Jesse Sherron. She appreciated all kinds of music and loved to dance. She had been an active member of Calla Rebekah Lodge in Lamar.

She married Henry Abraham Eccher on Nov. 29, 1941. He preceded her in death.
