NEVADA-Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Nevada for Margaret Susan “Pat” Haggans, 91, who died Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Barone Alzheimer Center in Nevada. Rev. Sharon Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 70 years, Homer Wesley Haggans; three sons, Michael Haggans and wife Katie, John Haggans and wife Mary and Charles Haggans and wife Carol; six grandchildren, Sarah Swearingen and husband Joe, Matthew Haggans and wife Valerie, Emily Haggans, Kiri Haggans, Vanessa Haggans and Sam Haggans and four great-grandchildren. She was Aunt Pat to many nieces, nephews and cousins, who for years joined in a huge family Thanksgiving dinner.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Joustra and a brother, John Monroe Atkinson.

Mrs. Haggans was born Nov. 28, 1924, in El Dorado Springs, to Stella and John Atkinson. She was a 1942 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, as well as a master's degree in Elementary Educatoin from Pittsburg State University. She taught for more than 30 years in Nevada schools, passing on her love of learning and spark of life to hundreds of students.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma (teachers society), Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Lares Club and Misosuri Retired Teachers.
