LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa, for Robert Paul Nelson, 81, Lamar, who died Friday, March 11, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
Friends may call at Daniel Funeral Home until 12 noon on Tuesday, March 15.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Salvation Army, in care of Daniel Funeral in Lamar or Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Nelson, of the home; two sons, James Nelson, Los Alamos, N.M. and Justin Nelson, Lamar; a brother, William Nelson, Red Oak, Iowa; two sisters, Jeanette Lawson, Red Oak, Iowa and Dee Anna Haack, Council Bluffs, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a larger extended family.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law and his wife's sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and Leo Hites and Janice and Bob Lehman.
Mr. Nelson was born Jan. 12, 1935, in College Springs, Iowa, to Paul and Monterey Nelson. He graduated from high school in Clearmont, Mo. and proudly served his country for six years in the Army National Guard. A member of the Teamsters Union, he was an over-the-road truck driver, working for various trucking firms for nearly 40 years. He was a quiet man who loved to read and enjoyed outdoor activities as well, especially water skiing, time spent on the lake or traveling the country on his Harley-Davidson.
He married Sharon Moore on April 27, 1975, at Lamar.
