CARTHAGE-Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Lamar United Methodist Church for Shirley Louise Estes, 90, Carthage, who died Sunday, March 6, 2016, in Lamar. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.

Survivors include one daughter, Anne Miles, Lamar; one son, John Estes, Boca Raton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and two brothers, Glenwood Jarvis and Robert Jarvis.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Jarvis.

Mrs. Estes was born April 29, 1925, in Millinocket, Maine to Samuel and Florence (Lowell) Jarvis. She was a 1942 graduate of Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine. She was a longtime Carthage resident and worked as a secretary, in electronics and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage, where she was involved with the children's ministry. She enjoyed reading, spending time with family and friends and baking brownies and fudge.

She married Clifford F. Estes on Aug. 30, 1942, in Portland, Maine. He died Oct. 14, 2001.
