Pyles to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Calvin and Carol Pyle will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends on Sunday, June 29, with a come-and-go reception at the First Christian Church Family Life Center, 900 Golden Ave, Golden City, from 2 p.m. to 4 pm. The couple married on July 21, 1975 at the Golden City Methodist Church. The couple requests no gifts.

The Barton County Library kicked off their summer reading program at the Mary K. Finley Library in Lamar on Thursday morning, May 29, with children's musician Dino O'Dell. Shown in the picture are kids who followed him as he taught them movements to go with his songs, while teaching them about the seven continents, five oceans and what's special about each part of our world. There were almost 100 in attendance. The program at the library was O’Dell’s second of the morning, after offering a presentation to students in first through fifth grades at Lamar’s summer school. As usual, this project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Truman Day draws large crowd
Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Lamar Bank & Trust celebrated with it’s many loyal customers as they served a “good ole’ Metro BBQ” choice of chicken or sausage to those attending. The event was held Wednesday, June 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., across the street from the bank at the Wyatt Earp Park. Tables had been set up at the park for those staying to eat, while a station was also available for those wishing to take their meal home. Also given away were their very popular t-shirts, along with some “swag” items and a station was set up for those entering to win four tickets to a Stompin’ Grounds event. LBT employees worked diligently throughout the evening, ensuring that everyone was taken care of and guaranteed a good time.
