The “Purple People Feeder”, a food truck out of Joplin that is known for providing free fresh produce and other food items as part of a mobile food bank, was at the Mary K. Finley Library in Lamar from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. The fresh food that included Arkansas peaches, fresh green beans and other regionally grown fresh produce including lettuce, squash, zucchini, onions and tomatoes were given away free to anyone. The “Purple People Feeder” is associated with The Alliance of Southwest Missouri, a non-profit organization that rotates between eight area counties. Needless to say the truck is known for its bright purple color and its ability to draw attention while distributing food. The food truck will be returning to the library at a future date. Watch for their return on the library’s facebook page at Barton County Library.
