JAMES PHILIP “PHIL” CHARLTON

James Philip “Phil” Charlton, age 59, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away suddenly on October 16, 2025.
Phil was born on May 20, 1966, in Pittsburg, KS to Gary Wayne Sr. and Kaye (Walker) Charlton. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1984.
Phil worked for 32 years as a heavy equipment operator, a career that reflected his strong work etchic and dedication. Outside of work, he loved being outdoors – especially exploring the family land in search of arrowheads, hunting, and mushroom hunting, a pastime that connected him deeply to nature and his roots.
A passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, Phil rarely missed a home game and could always be found tailgaiting and cheering on his team. Above all, he was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
Phil is survived by his parents, Gary Wayne Sr. and Kaye Charlton, Liberal, MO; significant other, Becky Wilson of Liberty, MO; two daughters, Katelyn (Kevin) Lee, Basehor, KS, Haley Charlton, Garden City, MO; three brothers, Gary Wayne Jr. (Gayla) Charlton, Liberal, MO, Mike (Becky) Charlton, Liberal, MO, Daniel (Magarah) Charlton, Liberal, MO; grandchildren, Rhett and Hazel Lee, Basehor, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and his beloved dog, Peanut.
Phil will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warmth, humor, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Cremation with a celebration of life visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to SEK Humane Society or the Basehor-Linwood Education Fund.
