Glenn Thomas Darlington, 97, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Silver Creek Senior Living in Joplin, MO. Glenn was born on December 18, 1927, to Thomas Eugene (Gene) Darlington and Pearl Rose Harrison Darlington in Rural Barton County Missouri, near Oskaloosa. He had several brothers and sisters. Dorothy Jean Darlington Thomas, Donald, James Carl, Ray, Marion and an infant brother all preceded him in death. His brother, Lee lives in New Mexico and his sister, Edith Rose Darlington Weaver lives just a few miles down the road from his residence in rural Barton County.
Glenn graduated high school from Bronaugh, Missouri in 1945. In 1946 he was invited by Harry S. Truman (himself) to sign up to see some of the world, mainly Germany. After basic training he took a grueling ocean cruise lasting what he felt was months. When he arrived in Germany, he was put in charge of ordering and distributing food and supplies since the fighting portion of the war was over.
There he met a beautiful girl. They were married in April 1949, and he was immediately transferred home - again on an ocean cruise. Emma Louise (Liesel) Hanning took a lovely flight to the states, stopping briefly at Ellis Island for a tour.
The couple lived in Kansas City for a time, where Glenn worked at the Fisher Body Plant. Their first son, Thomas Edward, was born in July 1950. The family decided to move to their Rural Missouri farm near Bronaugh. A second son, Richard Lee (Rick) was born in April 1953. A daughter, Christina (Tina) Darlington (Easter) was born in December of 1959.
Glenn was very active in the Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason.
Glenn lived his later years in a bungalow built by his son-in-law, Chris Easter, on their home property. He came and went as he pleased and usually ate with Chris and Tina. He enjoyed his life and was a very strong part of the lives of his family and friends.
Glenn lost his mother in 1954. Glenn tragically lost his son, Tom, in October of 1969 and later lost his father, Gene, in 1971. He suffered the loss of his beloved wife, Liesel, from cancer in November of 1979.
Glenn had many blessings. His granddaughter, Liesel Rene’ was born in April 1980. He had a grandson, Kale Adam, born in January 1982 and another grandson, Eric Chris, in August of 1987. He has several Great grandchildren as well. Liesel and her husband, Ro Del Perez have two boys, Landon and Gabriel. Kale and his wife Maegan have two girls, Addison and Emma. Eric and his wife Autumn also have two girls, Lucy and Ivey.
