Thankfully the region didn’t receive as much snow as was originally predicted and according to Barton County Emergency Services Director Jeremy Brand, due to drifting snow it is hard to say exactly how much snow fell this past weekend (January 24-25), but consensus has it that a little over five inches graced the Earth with a blanket of white. According to the Lamar Weather Service, through University Extension, the temperatures were frigid during the duration, with low readings of 6.0 on the 23rd, 3.9 on the 24th, 1.0 on the 25th and -6.7 on the 26th. The recorded highs during this period show 8.4 on the 24th, 13.1 on the 25th, 19.4 on the 26th and it finally broke the freezing mark on January 27, with a reading of 32.6 degrees. The City of Lamar was kept busy throughout this time and remain that way as they attempt to clean up the massive piles of snow around the town. While some schools remained closed on Wednesday, Jan. 28, Lamar R-1 and the Lamar Career and Technical Center returned to regular classes.
