LAMAR-A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Lake Cemetery for Helen I. Venable, 98, Lamar, who died peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Rev. Paul Hacker officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Survivors include a nephew, John Venable and his wife Laurie; two nieces, Martha Hacker and husband Paul and Margaret Spivay and husband Doug; two grand-nephews, John Hoerchler and Brandon Venable; a grand-niece, Sofia Hoerchler and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother, Alta and Charles Venable.

Mrs. Venable was born Oct. 9, 1917, in rural Barton County near Liberal, to Charles E. and Clara M. Venable. She was a 1935 graduate of Liberal High School. She moved to Pittsburg, Kan., to work for the water company, but soon migrated to C & M Auto Parts, where she spent the next 25 years as their bookkeeper. When they closed she went to work for Midwest Minerals until she retired. In retirement she moved home to Liberal.
