JOPLIN-A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sheldon Cemetery for Coleene Fay Leavell, 65, Joplin, who died Friday, May 8, 2015, in Joplin, following a sudden illness. Rev. Jerod Lamb will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Jason (Blu) Leavell, Joplin and Steve Leavell and wife Melissa, Sheldon; five grandchildren, Kelsey Leavell, Eric Leavell, Devion Leavell, Kylie Leavell and Jason Leavell; a brother, Wayne Atkins, Nixon and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Marshall Leavell.

Mrs. Leavell was born Oct. 4, 1949, in Hildrege, Neb., to Otis F. and Ola Wilma (Owens) Atkins.

She came to Missouri with her family at a young age and settled in the El Dorado Springs and Osceola areas. She worked at Key Work Clothes for a time and then later for Heartland Hospital in Nevada for a number of years. She had resided in Joplin for the past 20 years and was currently employed by the Community Support Services, where she had worked for 18 years.
