LOETA HAILE JULIAN

LAMAR-A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Cemetery for Loeta Marie Haile Julian, 87, Lamar, who died Saturday evening, Aug. 27, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Memorial Hospital, Good Shepherd Nursing Home or Hospice Compassus, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Terry Haile and wife Becky, Carthage; a daughter, Melanie Bruffett and husband Ron, Lamar; a stepdaughter, Beverly Babigan and husband Alan, Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren, April Riley and husband Tim, Gretchen Rozeboom and husband Kyle, Seth Bruffett and wife Ali, Terra Crihfield and husband Daniel and Trevor Haile and wife Lacy; 10 great-grandchildren, Grace, Kelton, Noah, Owen, Cooper, August, Trace, Loralei, Landry and Elsa and many extended Haile and Julian family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Messer and Ona Messer Hackney; her stepfather, Sam Hackney and her half-brother, Glenn Hackney.
Mrs. Julian was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Joplin, to Frank and Ona (McDaniel) Messer. A strong work ethic and interest in sewing and quilting was sparked at an early age as she worked at Sam & Ona Hackney's Dry Goods Store on the east side of the Lamar square. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1946, she earned a teaching degree from SMS in Springfield and taught at Forest Grove country school for a short time. In addition to being a farm wife and devoted homemaker, she had served as Richland Township Collector for many years. Over the years she had also worked at the Lamar ASCS Office, Blue Top Restaurant and Thorco. She will be remembered by many as an accomplished seamstress and avid quilter, who enjoyed the challenge of difficult patterns and intricate design.
She married Roland Haile on Oct. 1, 1949, at Lamar. He died Jan. 11, 1994. She married Pete Julian on Nov. 25, 1995. He died Aug. 23, 2008.
