Mrs. Pennell was born June 2, 1935, in Jasper County, the 10th of 12 children of Alfred and Enola (Parrish) Pennell. Love for the Lord was evident in her life as she cared for those around her with genuine kindness and quiet gentleness. She was a faithful member of Newport Baptist Church, where she served as song leader for many years. Love for her family was expressed by her willingness to share her time and talents in service to others. She and her sister Wilma were devoted caregivers for their parents, as well as for Nadine Cross. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Pennell raised chickens and cattle and enjoyed mowing grass as long as her health permitted. She was an excellent seamstress and had hand quilted many beautiful quilts over the years.
