Lamar Democrat/Richard Cooper
Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center honored its advocate of nearly 30 years, LeAnn Campbell, right, with a reception held October 21. LeAnn has been the facility’s volunteer ombudsman since 1986. She also is a retired educator and the author of a voluminous number of children’s books. Presenting a crystal plaque of appreciation for her long years of service was Connie Payne, regional director for a 21-county area of southwest Missouri dedicated to protecting the rights of the elderly and disabled, all a part of the federal Older Americans Act. Within the 21 county region are two hospitals, 189 nursing homes, and the Veterans Home at Mount Vernon.
