LAMAR-Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, for Charlene Wilma (Smith) Garvin, 75, Lamar, who died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood. Captain Dana Cook officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; a daughter, Rose M. Burke, Lamar; a son, Michael Burke, Jr., Carthage; five grandchildren, Kristina, Shyla, Justin, Nicholas and Nathon; 10 great-grandchildren and a sister, Kathrine, Hammond, Ind.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleyn and three brothers, Robert, Michael and Charles Smith.

Mrs. Garvin was born Oct. 22, 1941, in Hammond, Ind., to Charles William and Rosemarie (Hartman) Smith. She was the oldest of six children and left school in the eighth grade to help support her family.

She married Michael Burke Sr. and he preceded her in death. She married John Garvin on April 5, 1975, in Hammond, Ind. and they moved to Missouri over 20 years ago.

She had previously been employed at Sears & Roebuck as a salesclerk, Casey's General Store in Golden City and then as a housewife. She was a Soldier in the Salvation Army and a Minister in the Women's League, ministering and bringing joy and sharing her faith to many and guiding her family. She never missed Sunday services, not even after becoming sick and at the nursing home.
