KENNETH STEEVES, SR.
JASPER-Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Weng Funeral Chapel for Kenneth LeRoy Steeves, Sr., 74, Jasper, who died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, where he had been a resident since March of 2016. Graveside services will follow at Waters Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joan Steeves; three children, Tammy Foster and husband Lawrence and Kenneth Jr. and wife Sandy, all of Jasper and Timothy and wife Brandi, Carthage; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Arlene Blaisdale, White Bear Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George Steeves and a granddaughter, Elisabeth Caroline Wenger.
Mr. Steeves was born July 4, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minn., to George and Edith (Richardson) Steeves. He grew up on his family farm near Ogilvie, Minn. After graduating high school he attended college in St. Cloud, Minn. and then joined the US Army. He served over 20 years, which included overseas duty in Korea, three tours in Vietnam, three years in Germany and various posts in the U.S. He was a highly decorated soldier. Some of the awards he received were the Vietnam Cross of Gallentry w/Palms and Bronze Star. He retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1982 and moved his wife and children to Jasper.
After retiring from the Army he served as Chief of Police for the city of Jasper. He also was the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 88, which he enjoyed so much. He was a member of the Baptist church.
He and his wife spent many of their retirement years traveling. They loved taking their RV to Texas and other warm states during the winter.
