LAMAR-Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Konantz Warden Chapel for Doyle M. Horton, 67, Lamar, who died Tuesday, Dec, 6, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family. Don Keithly officiated. Burial was in Moorehead Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda; his mother, Kathleen and one daughter, Bobbi Anne Jeffries, all of Lamar; two sons, James Horton and wife Miranda, Kansas City, Kan. and Nick Horton and wife Phaedra, Jeffersonville, Ind.; grandchildren, Ariel, Adrianna, Aliya, Aileen, Anastasia, Trinity, Samantha, Paxton, Dylan and Caleb Horton and Maddie and Wyatt Jeffries; a brother, Mark Horton, Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Vickie Bilke and husband Dave, Joplin; a brother-in-law, Walter Bates and wife Sheri, Golden City and a sister-in-law, Babette Hosier and husband Ed, Nixa.

He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Mickie; an infant son, Damian Michael; his father, Bobby Horton; a granddaughter, Kirsten Paige Jeffries and a sister-in-law, Brenda Horton.

Mr. Horton was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Lamar, to Bobby Joe and Kathleen (Williams) Horton. He attended Lamar schools, graduating in 1967. After graduation he was active four years in the Navy aboard the USS San Diego. When he returned home from the service he entered the family business with his parents, Horton's Dime Store, until it closed in 1994, then he started working at Horton's Jewelry Store with his brother Mark. He worked there until retiring in 2014.

He married Maureen “Mickie” Myers on March 30, 1968 and she died in 1996. He married Melinda Bates on April 12, 2010, in Lamar. He enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren's programs and events, fishing, woodworking, meeting up with the “donut shop” gang, watching NASCAR and cheering on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He liked to sit in his chair by the window and play his guitar. He was a member of United Methodist Church and Odd Fellows of Lamar.
