LIBERAL-The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar for Darrell Wayne Johnson, 53, Liberal, who died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at The University of Kansas Hospital, after suffering a stroke Friday morning. Beginning at 6 p.m., Rocky Lemmons will officiate an informal service to honor Mr. Johnson with shared memories. Please come prepared to tell your favorite "Darrell Story".

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Johnson family, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa, of the home; four sons, Robert, Michael, Kelly and Joseph; four daughters, Jessica, Amber, Brandy and Holly; a sister, Juanita Hogshooter; many grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cody, in 2015; two brothers, Charles Johnson and Hubert Ray Johnson and two sisters, Geraldine Lewellen and Wilma Jean Davidson.

Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 30, 1963, in Siloam Springs, Ark., to John and Edna Mae (Ames) Johnson. He had also lived in Oklahoma before moving to Missouri in 1995. He was an over-the-road trucker, driving for Don Leaming Trucking for 15 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, camping and horseback riding. He was a talented woodworker and a shade tree mechanic. His morning card games were lessons in sportsmanship, sprinkled with laughter and love. Above all else, he was a devoted father and grandfather, who could be counted on to help anyone in need.

He married Lisa Shelton on Feb. 15, 1995, at Mt. Vernon.
