A group of hunters from northwest Arkansas enjoyed a day’s rabbit hunt around the Mossy Oak Lodge, Friday, in northern Barton County. The only hunting allowed on the 260 acres surrounding the lodge is for rabbits, deer, and turkey. The lodge is owned by Arkansans Brian Smith and Rodney Coats. The purpose of the lodge is to allow limited hunting, improve habitat, and pass on the love of hunting to the younger generation. Food plots and grain fields can be found throughout the 260 acres. The dogs, all beagles, are provided by Danny Ray Katroe (kneeling), operator of Katroe Kennels in Memphis, Tennessee. Barton County Conservation Agent Scott Brown works closely with the lodge owners.
