LETA BARNES

LAMAR- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church for Leta Lorraine Barnes, 97, Lamar, who died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Pastor Robb Hodson will officiat. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday, at the church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Amy Cemetery in Hocomo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Library, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Robert E. Barnes and wife, Suzie, Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Lorraine Vice and husband Harvey, Lamar and Jody Jones and husband Gary, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Jean Campbell, West Plains; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Barnes, and five sisters.
Mrs. Barnes was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Hocomo, to John S. and Amelia Iva (Rogers) Hunter. She was a 1937 graduate of Bakersfield High School. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, sewing, gardening, reading and teaching the Bible.
She married Leslie Eugene “Gene” Barnes on June 18, 1939, at Amy Union Chapel in Hocomo. He preceded her in death.
