NORFOLK, Va.- A friend/family memorial luncheon was held at his hometown of Lamar, Mo., for Gerald Woody Medlin, 73, who died peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017, in Norfolk. Due to his love of warm ocean water and breezes of the Gulf of Mexico, that will be his final resting place.

Survivors include his sister, Virginia Ellen (Medlin) Frieden and husband Lonnie; a son, Jon Medlin; a daughter, Beth (Medlin) Jackson and husband Melvin and two grandchildren, Madeline and Nicolas, as well as his niece, Gina (Frieden) Little and husband Kevin and two great nieces, Alana and Lauren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Affectionately known as Woody, he was born to Gerald and Virginia (Runion) Medlin on Sept. 16, 1943, in Nevada, Mo. He was a 1961 graduate of Lamar High School and went on to graduate with a Masters degree from Central Missouri State University (CMSU) in Warrensburg, Mo. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Lamar and was a member of the Shriners and past Master at the Masonic Lodge of Lamar, Mo. He owned several businesses before retiring. After retirement he moved to North Carolina and then to Virginia to be close to his grandkids.
He enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities, traveling and visiting with friends and family and was an avid animal lover.
