BILL O'BRIEN, SR.

LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home for William “Bill” Robert O'Brien, Sr., 85, Lamar, who died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Joplin Health & Rehab Center. George Haag will officiate. Burial will be at Lake Cemetery.
Contributions are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Bill O'Brien Jr. and wife Karen and Charles Mattox, all of Lamar; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Vernelle McPheater, Linda Bundy and Jeannine Workman; a brother, Edwin O'Brien and a sister, Evelyn McHarness.
Mr. O'Brien was born Jan. 2, 1932, in St. Joseph, to William Francis and Edna Mae (Potter) O'Brien. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Bethel Foursquare Church in St. Joseph. He enjoyed fishing and horseshoes and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals, and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles.
He married Vernetta “Vern” Johnson on April 10, 1954. She died July 28, 2013.
