RURAL LAMAR- Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home for Jack William Foster, 94, rural Lamar, who died Sunday, May 21, 2017, while visiting family in Fort Smith, Ark. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. James Cemetery, north of Milford.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 72 years, Maxine Foster; two sons, Jewell Foster and wife Gynith, Fort Smith, Ark. and Terry Foster and wife Carolyn, Blanchard, Okla.; a daughter, Rosalyna Kay Foster, Lamar; a sister-in-law, Maxine Foster, Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren, Javanna Wood and husband Jason, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Deanna Ramsey and husband Jimmy, Fort Smith, Ark., Jonathan Foster and wife Jennifer, Conway, Ark., Nathan Pipes and wife Joyce, Rockdale, Texas; Linda Lou Hancik and husband Carl, Chuluota, Fla. and Rebecca Sue Piercy and husband Allan, Canute, Okla.; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Foster; a sister, Bertha Foster; a granddaughter, Charlene Swaim; two grandsons, Zachary Pipes and Ayden Wood and two great-great-grandbabies.

Mr. Foster was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Dade County, to John and Romola (Leivan) Foster. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater during World War II. Returning home in 1946, he trained in diamond setting, clock repair and engraving, preparing him for a long and enjoyable career as a jeweler. He married Maxine Glass on Oct. 8, 1945, and they made their home in Kansas City, Clay Center and Atchison, Kan. After retiring in 1987, he and his wife moved to Barton County, where he shared the abundance of his vegetable garden with family, neighbors and friends. As long as their health permitted, they attended and appreciated the fellowship of Grace Christian Assembly near Verdella.
