TOM MABERRY

LAMAR- Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home for William Thomas “Tom” Maberry, 91, Lamar, who died Friday, May 26, 2017, at his home. Burial, with graveside military honors, was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Contributions are suggested to Gideons International of Lamar United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Betty; two sons and their wives, Alan and Carol Maberry and Mark and Pam Maberry; six grandchildren, Shawn and wife Leslie, Nathan and wife Beckie, Jordan and wife Elie, Melinda, Dustin and wife Melinda and Miranda; 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Landon, Addie, Dylan, Grace, Remington, Trenton, Mollie, Carson and Cade; one sister, Joan Leaming and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Alexander.
Mr. Maberry was born May 30, 1925, in Dade County, to Earl and Mona (Matthews) Maberry. He attended Lockwood High School and served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 34th Infantry in the Philippines and Japan. He married Betty McArthur on Oct. 28, 1944, and together they reared two sons. He graduated from Barber College in Kansas City and in 1948 began a 45-year career of barbering in Lamar. He bought the shop in 1955 and it became known as Maberry’s Barber Shop. In 1984 he sold the shop to his son Alan and continued to work for Alan until retiring May 7, 1993.
He was a longtime member of American Legion, VFW and served faithfully in the Gideons International. He was also a long-time member of Lamar United Methodist Church, as well as the Fidelis Sunday School Class and United Methodist Men.
