MELVIN E. MONROE

A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City for Melvin E. Monroe, 88, who died March 14, 2017, after fighting a long battle with liver cancer, among other things. Mike Gage of the First Christian Church in Lamar will conduct the service. There will also be a military honor guard presentation to the family.

Survivors include two daughters, Coleen Kelley, Tallassee, Ala. and Janet Searles, Iantha; four nieces and nephews, Janet Marley, Mark Monroe, Tim FitzGerald and Jeanne Piercy, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin L. Monroe.

Mr. Monroe was in the United States Army and served as an infantry soldier who fought in the Korean War. He was also a dedicated and loving father.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.
