GENE “BREEZY” ARMSTRONG

LAMAR- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Daniel Funeral Home for Gene “Breezy” Armstrong, 84, Lamar, who died Friday, June 23, 2017, at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
Contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, of the home; one son, Tony Armstrong and wife Terre, Springfield; a stepson, Jeff Henderson and wife Dorene, Kansas City, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Annette Mayfield and husband Roger, Lamar; grandchildren, Jenna Gibbs and husband Nathan, Sean Armstrong, Claire Plank and husband Brandon, Alex Henderson, Derek Henderson, Michael Henderson, Courtney Mayfield and Erin Mayfield; great-grandchildren, Bowen Plank and Gracie Gibbs, who will arrive in August; two brothers-in-law, Hosea Gold and wife Phillis, Republic and Max Walters and wife Debbie, Lamar and a sister-in-law, Jill Pugh and husband Carter, Lamar.
Mr. Armstrong was born April 14, 1933, in Golden City, to Birdie Thurman. He attended a county grade school in Golden City and later attended Aurora High School. He operated Breezy’s Barber Shop in Aurora for many years and retired from the Army National Guard in 1987 after 22 years of service. He was a member of Fundamentalist Methodist in Aurora, as well as a member of the Masons and VFW. Restoring, racing and trading cars was one of his passions. He loved going to car races and attending basketball games of his grandkids.
He married Wanda Childers on June 30, 1951 and together they had one son. After 37 years of marriage she died on Jan. 20, 1988. He married Joy (Walters) Henderson on Nov. 25, 1988.
