VERA M. JEFFRIES

CARTHAGE- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Carthage for Vera M. Jeffries, 88, Carthage, who died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Private family inurnment will follow the service at Hackney Cemetery in Carthage. Rev. James Lee will officiate.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.

Memorial gifts are suggested to First United Methodist Church or CAN DO Senior Center, in care of the mortuary at 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836.

Survivors include three daughters, Rella Jeffries, Joplin, Keri Brown and husband Danny, Shell Knob and Lana Smith, Pittsburg, Calif.; one son, Kevin Jeffries and wife Barbara, Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Paugh.

Mrs. Jeffries was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Carthage, to Urban and Bealuh (North) Paugh. She was a 1946 graduate of Jasper High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Smallwood Gas Company for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage.

She married Jesse Thomas Jeffries on Nov. 14, 1948, in Lamar. He died Oct. 4, 2012.
