GENE WILLCOCKSON

LAMAR- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, for Gene Willcockson, 89, Lamar, a former longtime resident of Leeton, who died early Saturday morning, Aug. 26, 2017, at Truman Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Lamar. Rev. Murlin Anstine will officiate. Burial will be in Mineral Creek Cemetery in Leeton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Survivors include four children, Shirley Willcockson, Springfield, Larry Willcockson and Yevonne Montoya, Albuquerque, N.M., Susan Griffith and husband Bill, Lamar and Cheryl Anstine and husband Joe, Chilhowee; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Carl Willcockson and wife Catherine, Clinton; a sister, Clara Slagel and Bob Bush, Columbia, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Thurman.

Mr. Willcockson was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Chilhowee, to Everett Barton and Stella (Mosley) Willcockson. He was a custodian and bus driver for the Shawnee Mound school district for six years and then at the Leeton school district for 48 years, retiring in 2004. He always planted a very large garden and enjoyed his old John Deere tractors. He liked to fish and go coon and squirrel hunting.

He married Ruby Helen Chambers on May 14, 1949, in Clinton. She died Feb. 18, 2012.
