Mr. Holl was born May 8, 1954, in Oregon. In 1972, immediately after graduating from Tyee High School in Seattle, Wash., he began a 17-year career in the U.S. Navy. He served more than a year as a Machinist Mate in Vietnam, where he obtained, maintained and repaired ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment and outside machinery.
After retiring from military service, he worked in the maintenance department at Thorco for many years. Instilled with a great work ethic, he usually held more than one job at a time, working as a janitor at SummerFresh Grocery, a delivery driver for Pizza Hut and a cook at KFC-Taco Bell and Denny’s of Lamar over the years. While his health permitted, he enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing. He was a gifted singer who loved all kinds of music and maintained a positive attitude throughout the many challenges he faced and overcame. His zest for game nights, puzzles and cards with family and friends made lasting and loving memories for everyone involved.
He married the love of his life, Jane Osterdyk on April 16, 1977, at Brook Park, Minn. They lived at various Naval bases before settling in Barton County in 1987. They had shared 32 years together before she died due to an automobile accident on August 22, 2009.
