RURAL LAMAR- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Gary Gastel, 80, rural Lamar, who died early Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2017, at Truman Healthcare Center. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn, of the home; four sons, Steve Gastel and wife Ginger, Bartlesville, Okla., Scott Gastel, Lamar, Kent Gastel, Frontenac, Kan. and Kirk Gastel and wife Kristin, Dallas, Texas; four brothers, Dwight Gastel and wife Kay, Golden City, Richard Gastel and wife Ellen, Jasper, James Gastel and wife Jeannie, Jasper and Kenny Gastel and wife Arvilla, Rock Island, Ill.; two sisters, Doris Little and husband Ray and Janet Diggs and husband Steve, all of Lamar; a sister-in-law, Judy Gastel, Lamar; five grandchildren, Jeremy Gastel and wife Katie, Christopher Gastel, (Dustin) Hayden, Zac Gastel and wife Kimber and Gavin Gastel and 10 great-grandchildren, Terin, Taylor, Oakley, Skyler, Karmen, Lily, Waylon, Rayley, Conway and Dalton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Wayne and Keith Gastel.

Mr. Gastel was born May 18, 1937, in Lamar, to Leonard and Gladys (Patterson) Gastel. He graduated Lamar High School in 1955, then served his country in the United States Navy. He married Carolyn Gartman on April 25, 1959, at Lamar and they made their home, farmed and reared their four sons in Barton County.
