SHELDON- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home for Joan Louise Smith, 78, Sheldon, who died at her home on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, after a short illness. Burial will be in Tolson Cemetery, northeast of Sheldon.

Contributions are suggested to the Barton County Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Krewson, Sheldon and Sherri Cramer, Lamar; a former stepson, Doyle York, Jasper; a special friend, Lee Dozier; one sister, Edna Clark, Lamar; a niece, Sandy Lucas, Lamar; five grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Jerico Springs, Colby Rector, Golden City, Crystal Starne, Lockwood and Trish Smith and Amanda Smith, both of Lamar; 16 great-grandchildren and one grand-nephew.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Aubrey Don Rector; a great-grandson, Garth Lee Seaton; a great-granddaughter, Leslie Dawn Ball and a great-nephew, Jason Lucas.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 25, 1939, at Sheldon, to Travis and Necie (Ambler) Wells. She had worked for Fox Deluxe Pizza as a waitress and most recently in the dietary department at Nevada Regional Hospital, until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, taking walks and watching the Dallas Cowboys football, but spending time with her grandchildren was what brought her the greatest joy.
