LAMAR- Services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home for Marvin Eugene McKenzie, 88, Lamar, who died Saturday night, Jan. 20, 2018, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, Mo. Entombment will follow in Lockwood Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to Cornerstone Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Mike McKenzie, Joplin; two grandchildren, Zack and Rachelle McKenzie; sisters, Alvenna Valentine, Lamar and Mary Jane Kaderly, Belton; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris, Cedar Park, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma McKenzie; brothers, Leo Taft, Melvin Taft, Milford Taft, Roy Taft and Art Taft and sisters Mildred Lindsey, Mary Lou Taft and Rose Casey.

Mr. McKenzie was born Oct. 14, 1929, to Alva and Florence (Kellogg) McKenzie. He married Velma Strong on Dec. 3, 1973, at Miami, Okla. and they made their home in Lamar for the past 44 years. He served in the Air Force for one tour of duty and retired from O’Sullivan Industries. He also worked side by side with his wife, creating craft products, which they sold in area craft malls and enjoyed sharing the abundance of their vegetable gardens with neighbors and friends. The two were long-time faithful members of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, where he was a deacon of the church. He was willing to lend a hand to help when someone needed help and was a good friend and neighbor to everyone.
