MARJORIE BUNTON CROCKETT JONES

PITTSBURG, Kan.- A private family burial will be held Thursday at Barton City Cemetery for Marjorie Bunton Crockett Jones, 94, Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, who died early Saturday morning, Jan. 27, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church in Liberal, with Scott Grey officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Liberal Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Tom Crockett and wife Wilma, Liberal, Mo.; daughters, Louise Egbert and husband Denny, Shawnee and Kathy Conduff and husband Mike, Denton, Texas; stepdaughters, Leann Barker and husband Bruce, Liberal, Mo. and Laura Scarlatto, Rosenberg, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Keith Crockett, Michelle Fast, Kevin Egbert, Scott Egbert, Corey Conduff, Kayla Whitworth, Valerie Barker, Kari Meadows, Tanner Scarlatto and Remington Scarlatto; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Ivan and Cecil Bunton; sisters, Virginia Reeves Sohn and Joan Thomas; husbands, Walter Crockett and Bill Jones and one great-great-grandson, Clayton Meadows.

Mrs. Jones was born June 21, 1923, near Verdella, Mo., to Emmet and Jessie (Kuhlman) Bunton. She attended school at Excelsior country school and Liberal (Mo.) High School. She married Walter Crockett on Aug. 18, 1940, at Hume, Mo. Together they owned a general store in Irwin, Mo. until 1943, when they began farming near Liberal, Mo. Three children were born to this marriage. He died suddenly in 1969 and following his death she was employed as a U.S. Census Taker and then as a bank teller at Citizens Bank of Liberal until retiring in 1982. She married William “Bill” Jones on April 3, 1971. He died in a car/train accident in 2015.

Mrs. Jones loved Jesus, her family, working in her vegetable garden and cooking. With a huge heart for others, she fried many chickens and baked even more pies to share. She was a member of the Liberal Methodist Church while rearing her children and then became a member of Liberal Christian Church when she married her husband Bill. She was active in the women’s ministries of both.
