JOAN TIERNEY
GLADSTONE- The Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for A. Joan Tierney, 86, a long-time resident of Gladstone, who died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the church. Rev. Donald Farnan will preside. Committal service and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel, Parkville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice House or Pearl Ohler Kentner Educational Scholarship.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Tierney; a son, James E. Tierney, Jr., Kearney; daughter, Loretta M. Bayless-Temple and husband Richard “Cade” Temple, Kansas City, Mo.; son-in-law, Del Peterson, Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Patrick Tierney and wife Amanda, Joseph Tierney and wife Amanda, Brionna Tierney, Joanie Lipscomb and husband Brandon, James Peterson, Nigel Bayless, Ian Bayless and Deena Qualls and Richard Temple and wife Courtney; 11 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Mary Lollar, Erma McGuire, Martha Maxwell and Gary Kentner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Ann Peterson, both parents and stepmother, Pearl (Ohler) Kentner, who reared her from the age of four years old and siblings, L.W. Kentner, Phyllis McGuire and J.C. Kentner.
Mrs. Tierney was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Golden City, to Lyman Wakefield and Mary Evalyn (Hastings) Kentner. She graduated high school in Golden City and spent the majority of her working career as an assistant manager for the United States Bookstore at the former Bannister Mall. She was a Methodist by faith, but attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with her husband for the majority of their 64 years of marriage. She was very active in the church and was devoted to both the Lord and her family. Her hobbies included traveling with her husband, sewing, crafting and researching family genealogy.
She married James E. Tierney, Sr., on Feb. 6, 1954.
