LAMAR- A private committal service will be held at a later date for Randy Lee VanGilder, 58, Lamar, who died Tuesday evening, April 24, 2018, surrounded by family at his home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Mary K. Finley Library, in care of the funeral home.

On June 9, 1989, he married Teresa (Hern) Jeffries VanGilder and she survives. Also surviving are his mother, Patsy VanGilder; his brother, Rick VanGilder; three sons, Tristan Jeffries, Nicholas Jeffries and wife Amanda and Caton Jeffries and wife Harmony; three daughters, Jenica Crockett and husband Jim, Randa Jeffries and Whitney Jeffries; 14 grandchildren, Layton, Savanah, Jonathan, Hayley, Adler, Simon, Wyatt, Kamden, Tessa, Trypp, Rylee, Liam, Evelyn and Avett; two nephews, Dylan and Slater; a niece, Carlee and a large extended family.

Mr. VanGilder was born Nov. 4, 1959, in Lamar, to Carl and Patsy (Davis) VanGilder. He was a 1978 graduate of Lamar High School and became a master plumber, working for King Plumbing in Joplin for six years. In 1994 he earned LPN certification from Franklin Tech in Joplin. As a healthcare provider, he provided excellent service to others in nursing homes and home healthcare for many years.

A life-long learner and avid reader, he educated himself on any topic that piqued his curiosity or applied to his wide variety of interests. His love of the outdoors was nurtured by summers growing up in the hayfield and later caring for his cattle herd. He was a “people person” who thrived on time spent with family and friends and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs.
