JERICO SPRINGS- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bland-Brumback Chapel for Wesley Raymond Scholes, 90, Jerico Springs, who died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018. Burial will be at Brasher Cemetery.

The family requests rather than flowers, that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Newman, Tucson, Ariz. and Debra Scholes, Stockton; two grandchildren, Chris Newman, Overland Park, Kan. and Mike Newman, Omaha, Neb. and four great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Doris Jeanette (Higgins) Scholes; a daughter, Cathy Janene Scholes and six siblings, Lorne Richard Scholes, Melvin Lloyd Scholes, Herbert Gene Scholes, Almeta Elisabeth Eisenhour, Pearleta Florence Larson and Helen Jane Mangin.

Mr. Scholes was born Jan. 30, 1928, near Sheldon, to John “Shorty” and Lola Fay Scholes. Upon graduating from Sheldon High School he enlisted in the Army and served in Japan during World War Two. After returning from the war, he farmed and raised cattle west of Jerico Springs for 67 years. During that time he had several hobbies such as raising buffalo, white tail deer and elk.

He continued to serve the community while farming by serving on the Sac Osage Electric Coop Board of Directors for 34 years and the Stockton R1 School District Board.
