He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Schnelle; his son, Alan Schnelle and his brother, Melbert Schnelle.
He led a full and long life on the family farm. Mr. Schnelle was born Oct. 8, 1924, to Walter and Clara (Buente) Schnelle. He attended Sunnyside and Zion Lutheran School in Meinert and was a 1942 graduate of Lockwood High School. He was baptized Oct. 26, 1924 and confirmed April 10, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church. He later joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, actively serving on the finance committee, on the building committee when the church was built and as an elder.
He married Evelyn Kleiboeker on May 12, 1951 and they were blessed with five children. His wife was called to her heavenly home on Feb. 28, 1972. On September 15, 1973, he was united in marriage to Jean Davis Hall and they were blessed by the birth of one son, plus he gained three additional sons by marriage.
His passion was farming and he dedicated hours of service to his community, serving as president of the MFA board in Lockwood for many years. He loved watching his crops and cattle grow. He was a man that believed in a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children. It was in those hours spent with him on the farm that molded all into who they are today and for that, the family will forever be grateful.
Many of Mr. Schnelle’s happiest moments were watching his grandchildren play ball (and win!), 4-wheeling with the family, feeding the cattle and afternoons on the lake. Family trips were often sparked by a rain storm, leaving only moments to get suitcases packed and loaded. His children knew that if he held a different opinion from them, he would often say, “You must know” and all knew what that meant! He loved telling stories from the early days of Dade County, told to him by his grandfather, which he would share on Sunday afternoon drives. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
