LAMAR-A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home Chapel for Joe Jerry Whyman, 62, Lamar, who died Sunday, July 26, 2015, at his home after a long battle with cancer. A private family burial was held on Friday at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Vickie Whyman; a daughter, Brandy Whyman, Joplin; a son, Daniel Whyman and wife Julie, Lamar; three grandchildren, Lauren, Matt and Miles; a sister, Jane Obert and husband Ivan, Joplin; four sisters-in-law, Judy Engel, Manitou Beach, Mich., Janice Hill and husband Bill, Joplin, Georgana Neher, Lamar and Rose Clements, Carthage; one brother-in-law, Mark Clements and wife Roma, Irving, Texas and many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ruth Whyman; two brothers, Butch and Michael Whyman and a sister, Susan Felkner.

Mr. Whyman was born Sept. 9, 1952, at Lincoln, Neb., to Clyde William and Ruth (Jelinek) Whyman. He was a 1970 graduate of Lamar High School. He had worked for O'Sullivan Industries for 37 years, working his way up from the bottom to his final position as assistant plant manager. After O'Sullivan's, he worked at Nevada Regional Medical Center as a material's manager, retiring in September of 2014.

A lifelong love of bowling and golfing with his family and friends was his passion. He also enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren's activities and sports and was a shade tree mechanic for friends and family.

He married Vickie Lynn Clements on May 4, 1973 and together they reared their two children.
